OREK – Building Community for Those Without Family Support

No one should face life alone. At OREK – Reciprocal Backing Groups and Communities, we unite individuals who live without family support: survivors of domestic violence, elderly people living alone, adults with autism, and others who lack a personal safety net. Across Israel, over 90 people – including 40 children – are rebuilding their lives in 8 active OREK communities. Through mutual trust, cooperation, and shared responsibility, they create real social and economic value, together.

What We Do

OREK creates long-term, self-sustaining communities that offer support and belonging for people often left behind. We believe that trust and cooperation can replace the absence of family, helping individuals regain independence, self-confidence, and purpose. Each community is tailored to a specific population, such as:
  • Women survivors of violence (in Beer Sheva, Akko, East Jerusalem, and Kiryat Gat)
  • Elderly individuals without family (in Haifa and Kiryat Gat)
  • High-functioning autistic adults (in central Israel)
  • People with disabilities (new project in Nahariya region)
More communities are already in demand — including for LGBTQ+ individuals, parents in schools, and more.

Why We Need You

Your support is critical. Without additional funding, these vulnerable groups risk losing the stability they’ve just begun to build. Donations help us:
  • Keep current communities alive
  • Launch new ones in partnership with Israeli ministries and local authorities
  • Advance policy work, like our national roundtable on people without family support

Join Us

Together, we can ensure that no one is left without support, without hope, or without a future. Support OREK today – and help build communities that last.
